In order for a relationship to work, it is important to know the expectations that each party has for the relationship and what both wish to accomplish together through the relationship. And also to know what goals are both parties pursuing and developing a passion in the pursuit for it together.
Normally relationships last long because both partners have set personal plans and goals that each agree on. Sometimes, this is rather hard to accomplish because not everyone wants the same things. Moreover, building trust and understanding that lasts a lifetime is a long process to achieve the level of satisfaction one would expect in a relationship, which not many couples actually are patient enough to do so.
So, if you are in a relationship and have not established the goals in your relationship with your partner, it’s time to do so. And here are some things that you need to take into consideration:
1) Always be honest
>> Don’t hide your feelings of dissatisfaction. If you do so, it will lead to multiple fights and unhappy times in the future. Express your opinions instead of holding them inside.
2) Always spend time daily to talk to each other
>> Do keep the lines of communication open and active on a daily basis and you can make use of the many communication mediums that are available such as the telephone, handphone, emails, SMS. Don’t give yourself an excuse for not doing so.
3) Do think towards the future
>> Make sure you set goals which are long-term and always assess whether you can see yourself with your mate for the rest of your life because it is important that your goals are what will keep your relationships lasting.
4) Do show support in all of the things your partner tries to do
>> Can you imagine if your partner doesn’t support the things that you do? How would you feel? You’ll feel discouraged and unmotivated in your relationship. Hence, you need to be your partner’s pillar and even the source of inspiration.
5) Always give personal space to one another
>> Don’t smother your partner with your dependencies. Always give each other the personal space to grow and learn to be independent because well, sometimes, you need to do things on your own. Do help your significant other to grow and progress in life.
6) Respect the feelings and rights that your partner has in the relationship
>> You need to be sensitive to your partner and his/her feelings.
7) Do keep an open mind and try new things
>> Don’t ever let the fun fizzle out of your relationship. Keep an open mind when it comes to things such as solving problems or just trying a new activity/sport. But you also need to allow the other to explain his or her version of the situation too.
Setting goals together play quite an important part in a relationship because there are increasing factors that occur in a relationship, such as getting married, building careers and building a family together. And without proper planning, it can cause both parties to lose sight of what each other want.
It is always good to re-establish and set new goals – to adapt your goals to the changing wants and needs of each other. It’s important that for this to happen, you need to either vocalize your new goals or write them down so that neither one of you are left in the dark.
Also, don’t let any problems that both of you face build up in a relationship. It is important to express all of your feelings in order to achieve the goals you have set with your partner for your relationship.
