Reasons For Having Relationships

Since my blog will be on relationships, I definitely will need to address why we need relationships!

Well we need them because we need to grow and mature at every stage of our lives and relationships that we have with others shows us how much we have grown - for us to look at ourselves and see how we have matured and reflect back on how we have progressed as human beings.

We always seek to create relationships with others with love and sincerity, right from the moment we develop an attachment with our mothers. And as we grow older, we learn to form and develop personal or professional relationships with others with the help of the experiences that we have gone through doing so while growing up.

However, not all relationships are perfect. And the failure of one can cause us to fear and have negative assumptions towards relationships. Moreover, wrong coping strategies can cause us to turn away from others. Hence, it is important that we always understand why we create and enter a relationship with another person and from there, develop a safety net for ourselves to protect us from harm if the relationship does ever fail.

At the beginning of every sort of relationship, it is important to ask yourself the following questions:

1) Why are you entering into this new relationship?

2) what kind of relationship is it?

3) What do you want out of the relationship?

4) Why is this relationship important to you?

5) Why do you think your partner wants a relationship with you?

6) Do you think you and your partner are able to mutually satisfy the needs both of you have from this relationship?

7) Do you think you are ready for the relationship?

8) What type of support are you looking to have from your partner? How are you going to communicate that to him/her?

9) Do your attitudes, beliefs and values agree with his/hers? If yes, how are you going to resolve them?

10) What are your fears for the relationship?

Now that you have asked yourself these questions, you need to go through one by one with your partner or at least, question yourself. For those which you do not have a satisfactory answer, you will need your partner to help you to answer them and work with him/her to find a compromise in the relationship.

It’s good to have support right at the beginning because then you’ll know, whatever issues you may have, it’s possible to work together to find a solution. So long as you both are able to communicate your desires and needs clearly, it will be easy to work things out slowly.

Never doubt your abilities and yourself when in a relationship, as by doing so, you are collapsing your pillars of self-confidence within you which can be detrimental to your relationship in the long run.

So, here’s to a good start to a relationship! *Perhaps one between me and you, my dear reader~!*
